Critical Role Season Four Introduces the Soldiers Party

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their independent quest, separate from the additional parties.

This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (played by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Given an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.

Hence, the opening chapters of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Questers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for participants who prefer a traditionally charged fight-heavy narrative style where diplomatic options are rare.

At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander might seem mismatched, but the developments of episode 3 show why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

First, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense opening clash with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of Thjazi—whose death started the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, entering the secret base, attacking Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, beyond the city, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • Thimble, as the companion and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The knowledgeable figure has experience in the northern area and cautions that it is a hostile place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead freed him, have no other options.
  • However, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could assist the team access places they normally couldn’t.
  • Moreover, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now follow him everywhere.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are wanted by the powers that govern Dol-Makjar for a multiple motives, making remaining behind no longer safe:

  • The agile adventurer and The hero are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are aligned with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.

This leaves them no alternative but to head to the remote area in quest for the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to assemble the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Fans can expect finding out which players will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
